Living room

I love this cushion! JD cant sit here anymore..not my rules! The cushion says!!!😄

This window has been a thorn in my side since I moved in to the wee cottage I just didn't know what to do with it! Yesterday I thought I want something bold up here but without the expensive price tag that comes with anything a bit different.. So I asked JD to build me a wood frame at the top and I wallpapered it.

Anyway I just love it...I didnt have many wallpapers so I used this one but honestly I love it!

Miss Muffet Vintage Leather Pouffe: I am so glad I hung out for a footstool/Pouffe. Ive been wanting one for what feels like a lifetime!  I was sceptical when I seen this one on market place looking a tad rough with some studs missing the pictures just didnt do it justice but it was only £10 so I thought why not im sure I can do something with it. When I went to get it I was so surprised it was actually gorgeous., got it home, scrubbed it then fed it with leather care stuff put in a few new studs and here it is...still smells a bit like a fusty auld caravan but I love it!!!

I spent the day painting changing my shutters from dark to light, taking down other shutters and painting a wee table lighter. Already I can feel a shift in the air with letting in some light! I think dark interiors are beautiful when done right I was just rubbish at it!! I want it so different in here but I have to wait for the nice things to come along second-hand at the right price . One thing I realised today was it was good to have the white paint out again its been a few years! Ive been going down the dark road for a while now and it felt so good seeing white again!!!

Oh and check out my vintage Miss Muffet Pouffe I got I love it so much.

Do you think colours affect mood?

Does living with dark décor lower your mood?

I painted my shutters dark a few months ago to match my dark panelling in the living room. Im not sure it was the right idea. I've been walking past them for a few weeks now thinking OMG I am so sick of the dark!!! I decided to wallop some paint on them I didn't want to go stark white so I mixed a beige/sandy tone through the white just to give it a softer tone and not so blue/white. It looks like the lightest of grey beige/ greige to me in certain lights. Oh my I'm so glad I did I felt a lightness straight away! I'm going to the light side again 😃

Aw I am so glad I bought this. The picture that was advertised wasn't the best but I had a gut feeling it was a beauty oh my I was right.. I got it for £10 and its a real leather Miss Muffet product Pouffe. It smells a bit like a caravan but I've scrubbed and fed the leather put in a few upholstery tacks and its just gorgeous exactly what I was after. This one was worth the wait. :)

When you have been doing D.I.Y in the house for 2 weeks solid! its so nice just to put all the paint and tools away then clean, pour a coffee and sit down. I havent touched this room hahah just feels nice n clean & cozy!!!

I'm starting to gather a fair bit of stuff!!!!!! But every single piece of it I absolutely love! I love my Chinese vase I got for £6.50 in a charity shop.  I love my tallboy drawer cabinet I got for an absolute steal and painted it gold. I love all of it...especially my second hand books with the intention of one day not being busy to actually sit and read them! I know its not beautiful but I'm working on it...decorating a thrifty home takes lots of patience!!! Biding my time for the right piece to come along at a bargain price!

Whatever does he mean that he gets a headache in here!! He says it hurts his eyes 👀

I added a  shelf onto my Lord &Lady sign it just looked like it needed a wee something! I used a bit of garden wood and stained it in the same stuff I used for the sign. 🙂 I attached the brackets onto the sign itself. 🙂

When I seen this sign I thought I have to have it because JD and I are as rough as old boots!!!

It was also only a few pounds second-hand!!

I knew it was to pale for me and that I would have to brighten it up a wee bit!!

I just stained the outer darker and painted the letters gold....I like it much better....

                                                     After

Before

Remember my little ceiling shade I picked up in the charity shop..that's it hung!. JD put it up for me but its not wired in he couldn't get through the roof for this one so I'm buying one of those battery bulbs for it. I wont really be using it but when I do need my little space lit up I have the option 🙂 I think its a gorgeous we thing 🙂

I made a gallery wall a few months back and I thought about putting up some picture ledges but I went with a flat gallery wall instead because we were doing so many projects at the time but I just wasn't able to put on show everything I had collected or made. I asked JD to build me these picture ledges over the weekend and he done it for me in lightning speed!!! I love them and I get to put up fairy lights and all my wee bits I just couldn't show on my flat gallery wall. I've still to mess around more on this but this was how it turned out. I love it.. I stained them in walnut...would have liked them a bit lighter but its all I had in the shed 🙂 There's plenty room for another row of artwork underneath as I collect more.

Im just in love with this 1960s Brass & Glass coffee table I picked up for £15 last night...I looked on ebay and the exact same one is going for £369.00!!!! As soon as I placed it...it was christened with a big dog slabber!

Found this little 4 drawer storage unit to the right of the desk on marketplace last night and the black and white handles I found on vinted a few weeks back....It cost £23 all in....Im not painting it..I like it just now.x A place for all my wee bits n bobs since JD has filled every other drawer and cupboard in the house with his random crap!!!! 🤣

We bought our second-hand oxblood chesterfield 3 seater and matching wing back chair last year...I never really liked how the chair sat 5 or more inches higher than the sofa and I didn't like those bun feet either on the sofa!. I did love the Queen Anne legs on the chair though. I decided to raise the 3 seater to the same height as the chair and got me some gold Queen Anne legs!!! I'm so glad I done this it looks gorgeous...we may need a step ladder to get on the sofa but its worth it!!! 🤣

I have been busy today and its been lovely! Had a day off and decided to do some things around the house....Mostly faffing!! I painted the shutters in the living room and added some nice gold handles I got from Vinted. Put up some blinds I got from marketplace and I put up a wee oak shelf under my beautiful flowery lady and I added a wee touch of gold paint around the rim of my black lampshade a wee bit at a time and im slowly getting a space I love!!! 🙂

I painted the shutters dark...I had to live with this for a few days because it was so drastic looking. But I love it now...so cozy.....A big part of me just want to paint dark right up to the dado rail!!!

I was at the Dentist today (root canal) poor me! On my way home I passed in on a wee second hand shop that's shutting down and I picked myself up this green velvet feather filled cushion.....well I'm just in love with it!!! How comfy is that cushion!!!

I wanted a wood radiator cover for the sitting room, the only ones I could find in my price range where the untreated MDF. Next had a lovely one for £230.00. I showed the Next one to JD and said you could probably make that!! He said yes and I could  make it out of  pallets.....exciting....it turned out better than the Next one and it cost nothing!!!!! I love it...I am going to sand and stain it though.

I ran a line about 12 inches down from the coving and got JD to paper it for me with some of my textured anaglypta paper..I wanted a bigger textured pattern so it looked a wee bit more like raised plaster. I painted the wallpaper and the dado rail the same colour as the wall as I didnt want the wall to be too busy but I did paint over the paper and dado with a satin effect water based varnish so the light just catches the pattern. This isnt the best picture it is much nicer in real, Ive still to put the curtains up...

So this wall isnt finished..surprose surprise!!! I measured down about 12 inches from the coving and got Jim to wallpaper it for me haha..the joys of having a talented lackey haha. I want a picture/dado rail to finish it. At first I was going to do the border white but I feel there is to much going on so ive decided to paint it all in the same colour.

Remember these? I treated myself to a pair of Strawberry Thief Morris curtains a few years back because I wanted to use a curtain at my front door. Ive never used curtains on windows Ive always made shutters or had light airy voile's. I think these go beautiful with the smoky , moody atmospheric room we are creating at JDSs. Whats so funny is Ive hung them wrong they are about 6 inches off the ground just now so look awful but JD will lower the pole today haha.

So Ive painted the bottom panels black and mixed up a green for the top..not sure I like this green! Wish I had went lighter. I bought a cheap sage green form the shop and just mixed some of the coal black I had to it to give it a more smoky feel) Its all starting to look pretty nice though.

I used the lid of the toolbox/desk on the wall and hung some hooks we found in a charity shop also found a place to hang JDs WW1 Compass. :) Hes happy with it..and thats what its all about!

Aww im so happy the way this is turning out! JDs done a smashing job of building it. Ive took out the internals and moved them around a wee bit, stained and waxed them with some dark tan boot polish. Hes making a hinged lid for me from hardboard and I will stain it and put an insert in it like the old vintage writers desks...I think anyway.

We where racking oor brains last night trying to figure out what legs we would like for the old handmade joiners toolbox/desk. I really didnt want to buy anything new and we where contemplating getting iron legs made. When it hit me...I forgot I had 2 singer bases to make a farmhouse table with in the kitchen. With JDs skills we could use a singer base on the desk and one for the table!! I asked him and he said yes as always.... Excited I was hahaha

We also found this gorgeous Tray insert on the inside..Im going to stain that and place it on top of the desk with different pots for pens and things.

The next layer is going on the panels we made from the cheap doors in the house. I used wallpaper I had bought months ago it is a Kylie Monogue paper, it  has a lovely texture. Im going to do another maybe 12 inch band going around the top of the panels and then a wood trim. Im thinking painting them green or black and green above..cant make my mind up! I may also add another layer of texture over the panels..we will see!

I cant remember who gave me this Joiners toolbox but I do remember a wee bit of the story behind it. The man who owned it passed away and it was his first toolbox he made for himself he used it right up until he retired. It was filled with beautiful vintage tools that I also got!! Anyway meet my new computer desk. I actually love it like this now I hope I can find the right legs!

We had a few of those lightweight doors we were going to get rid of when I had the idea to saw them in half and make some wall panels with them I flipped them so the back is the front as they had a raised back and wouldn't have been flush with the wall.. JD put them up for me and made them fit perfect... hes bloomin good!. Im going to plaster stencil the inserts and paint them :) The other half was used as cupboard doors :)

I found a copper bracket and an old broken solar wire cage from the garden and Jim hung it for me on the pallet wall...I like it!

So it isnt finished..its just fresher! I had to throw it together in time for Christmas. You can see though there's a massive change.

I decided on a pallet wall directly above the fireplace. Jim got some pallets from a friend. He put them up for me and I stained them with a brown stain. I added a tablespoon of stain to 4 different bowls. added a drop of red to one, a drop of black to another and a drop of white to one the last bowl was just the original stain.

A bit of tiled Anaglypta behind the stove..Painted in black and then I dry brushed some bronze and copper paint. I also painted the old firesurround black.

I wanted to put a bit of greenery on the pallet wall we just built. I used a wine box gifted to my partner the year before. I just painted it dark and put a few wee bits of metal on the casing. Its perfect for a wee plant on the wood wall.

After

Now that I'm sharing a living space with my boyfriend I'm having to deal with all his clutter as well as my own! We shall start with Xbox games! What to do with them. My partner already had an orange pine table and I was given some wooden wine boxes form a local man last year they just lay around the shed holding bits of wood and tools. My idea..paint the table, add a lid on the box and then some castors on the base to roll in and out smoothly from underneath the table.

My wee computer area...so glad I got rid of the iKea desk..The cabinet is so much nicer. I made a wee desk mat from some vinyl tiles. Having a wee cup of coffee before I start work.

Black Door...This was not an easy paint job..I HATE using black...tiny wee dots go all over the place...lots and lots of cleaning no matter how much prep work this is!!! I just used a wall paint and then top coated over it with a clear matt varnish.

Dont ask me why but when I have a room with lots of painted items including the floor.. I need to add some natural wood..why I dont know I just know it feels off until I do...For me its a bit like when I add some black..it adds warmth and grounds things...I am not good at explaining how I decorate I go on feelings and I find it hard to explain! This morning I took this wee painted unit out and sanded his top..I added a water based stain I made myself from acrylic kids paint and varnished over the top 🙂 I will be adding a wood shelf to balance everything up in the studio room to.

Im just playing around with the dark colours...Ive put the first coat on the door to the left...Its definitely adding some drama to the room...honestly I love it!! Im not enjoying the painting part it really is rather messy...black dots over white walls...lots of cleaning !!! Just wanted to show you how cosy it looks in the morning sitting at my computer

Its only the first coat and its still wet: So ive papered the panelled wall..I went with a 20s design..I do love a wee deco fan...Im trying out this midnight blue just to see if I prefer it to the black. The midnight blue was just a mix up of lots of different water based paints I had in the shed.

Work in progress: Ok..the ikea desk is out...I have put in the upcycled drinks cabinet as my desk? I have put a base coat on the panelled wall with just ordinary water based paint..I just wanted to check I like the all black wall first...I am going to put textured wallpaper on the inside of each panel and paint over it all in a matt black. The desk will get repainted to its a tad tired...

Like my new dance floor sewing space hahahaha...I love it...The vinyl tiles where looking a tad worn in that area..so I just lifted them and put in these black and white...not an easy job a lot of trimming and tweaking lol...

Nice n clean lol....all ready for a busy weekend..love my wee tree..

My work studio fireplace...should I keep going with the black or stain a nice dark wood ledge for over the top and keep it as is...Im thinking leave as is with the dark centre and the nice dark wood shelf...

That is it!! Im knackered...no more black paint...no more decorating for at least a month....I am sick and tired of black paint, cork, chalkboards, whiteboards.....sick of it all..my back is sore my head is like mush and the house is upside down!!!!!!

Thats the whiteboard and cork finished...I wasnt going to do it until I had more time but ye know me!!!!!!! Nae patience!!!!!

Studio Room...I cant get enough of black and the only way I seem to be able to incorporate that at the moment is with chalkboards...Im thinking of putting a cork front and a whiteboard front on the other cupboards..??

I decided to make myself a wee Folksy pen caddy.
I love the wee logo Folksy uses..so bright and colourful!!

I cant believe we are in the middle of August already.
Im playing around with pictures instead of working!!!

A wee angle fae behind.. 🤣..Thats my machine been oiled, a needle change and new belt on and ready for work tomorrow...I do love me singers!!!

Im doing a wee bit of painting in the Studio...Im revamping my sewing machine base...I found this gorgeous Petrol Blue mix in the shed ...the wee drawer knobs are Pill tins I found in a pound store over 10 years ago...and the usual wallpaper for some texture...its a gorgeous colour....

I took all my rugs out my Studio room today to get a power wash..Im thinking im not going to put any rugs back in..I actually forgot I had a yellow floor which looks so nice and sunny n clean without anything on it.

I dont feel motivated at all today!!
Sometimes a wee look around the Studio cheers me up....

When you paint your window frames and dont want to put a blind up because
...well....and my view...aww
I wish I stayed somewhere where I didnt need blinds!!

So while im in the middle of chaos, staining the cupboards and making handles...
I decide in between coats to make a new sign for the walls.
I just dont understand myself sometimes!!!
I was still at it at midnight..there were more dog hairs stuck to it than glue!!!
Why do I do it to myself..
Dishes are everywhere, washing piling up, glue stuck to everything!!!

I used some old shelving I already had in the shed... the dog hair stuck to it is recycled to!!!

A wee update on my pine cupboards...
I wished I had never started..I have 4 more cupboards and 4 large shelves to do!!!
Try making orders in amongst this chaos!!!

Scrap Fabric Door Handles:
Im finally doing something about those horrible pine doors in my Studio.
Im staining them white and im making these gorgeous handles all in different designs for each door ...6 more to go..
I just interface the fabric with the strongest interfacing and sew seams all round..
Im using upholstery tacks to attach them to the doors.

Oooh New blue mat for my table to cheer me up this dreek Sunday morning..

I have some cuprinol white wood stain leftover from a shed..
Im thinking on staining the pine IKEA units or....decoupaging them in maybe different designs...
but it is coming im not keen on when pine goes orange!!

I may have to go for some help..I feel like I am getting a sticker obsession!!!!
My walls, my lights..whats next hahahaha

Just some sticker fun...My ikea lamp in my studio was screaming out for a wee colour pop!!!

Painted cork-board play area...
My 11ftx3ft wall of art...
I can pin and play for hours on end ....

I bought myself a new cutting mat and its gorgeous pink!!!

And just because the Lady loves her Studio....💓💓💓💓💓💓

Storage...
I need lots of storage in my studio..I have so much craft stuff !!!
The little mini antique desk with the mudcloth decoupage holds all my sewing threads...the little drawered unit found in the bins and which has been used in every room in my home holds all my a4 size papers.

Desk space is so important for me I have so much stuff .
My desk lamp just took up much needed space.
To my joy I found an alternative lighting solution..
THE PLUG IN CEILING LIGHT!!
I am so glad I found this..
I need them all over the house!!!
Above the kitchen and bathroom sink in the hallway...everywhere!!!
The only negative is they are a tad expensive and they dont have an on and off switch which is rather annoying.
Having to pull the plug out every time you want them on or off is a nuisance especially if the socket is down the back of something!!

I have faffed around all of Saturday night and into Sunday morning with my wire hiding obsession!
Any one else suffer from this?
I cant stand a ton of wires hanging around floors it drives me batty, especially with the amount of dog hair I have going on in here and when you try to hoover the wires and the dog hair is all caught up in there AAAAaargh!!
I seriously need to find a better solution I have struggled with this one for years.
I put a wee basket at the side of the table on top of the tower and just gathered all the wires in there.

Its been a quiet day today on the work front so I thought I would clean the sewing room. Some people have a livingroom...I dont!!! I love it!!
especially my vintage singer 201k...that I love very very very much..saved from the metal crusher...so were the wee drawers sat next to it ..and the chandelier..actually quite a few things were found in the skip lol..

A wee update on the paper clips lol..
I decided on wool wrapping the clips together in different colours...
Never again it took over 4 hours and I was nearly greetin!!!!
For me it just so started to look like a memo board so thats what it became.....

I thought a good idea would be to make Christmas tree in this design and hang cards and vintage ornaments from it... (another time)..

My Gallery wall is coming along nicely...

No Desk space...then this is the perfect little mini storage bin.
Can be used for pencils, pens, brushes, crochet hooks....
Comes with a matching bulldog clip so you can clip it to any wall grid.
Or just hook it on the wall using a push pin.

I read it wasnt a good idea painting cork board because the pin marks show when its painted.
My tiles were cheap not the beautiful cork you see in some pictures.
I picked them up from a charity shop and beggars cant be choosers!!
Well I just couldnt live with a wall that looked like the colour of dog poop!!!
It just wasnt a good colour and really didnt compliment the room..so pin marks were the lesser of  2 evils :)
I gave it 2 coats of white homemade chalk paint...
Gosh it looks so much better and I have a huge wall that I can play around without to much effort...

Now that I have gas central heating installed I dont have a working coal fire in my studio anymore :(
I cant afford to get an engineer to cap some pipes for me at the moment so
I decided to paint the chimney flue and the fire grate.
White homemade chalk paint mixed with coal gives a lovely off white colour :)

Enjoying having time to do those little things...
My studio and everywhere else for that matter is in dire need of a good clean and paint!!
I will start with dusting and see how it goes from there hahaha..

I was a machinist in a factory as soon as I left school so having a sewing machine has always been a part of my home decor.
My wee sewing nooks have grown over the years.
The ever changing sewing nook...
Im sure it will all change again.. :)

I was using an old Bureau for my craft desk..
This Desk from Ikea gives me so much more space.
Its all so organised, I love it...

Its been a few year now since I made these wall panels and mouldings...
Its all had a new coat of paint ready for my new work desk...
A wee link to the original panels..

So clean....clean and tidy..just clean....
Compared to all my Antique revamps...

I only had silver screws for the black shelf brackets...
I just painted over the tops of them with black paint...

I went to Ikea the other day to have a look at some furniture.....
I want to go all white again with colourful patterned accessories of course!
I just couldnt buy any of it..
In Comparison to my vintage pieces they just didnt do it for me quality wise.....
I am quite used to wooden dovetail drawers not plastic sliding ones...
Away home I went quite dissapointed...
So Ive decided on painting all my own pieces again white...
I have a chest of drawers and a bookcase in the JiggleMaWiggle shed at the moment...
Heres the living room at the moment...

The Pink unit, the turquoise desk and the yellow bureau are all getting redone...
Also there was a bureau for £200 in Ikea...
This one I found in a skip and its a more robust piece...
Why would I replace it I tell myself !!!

Another room all clean for my mums visit... :)
I love when everything is all clean...
It doesn't stay like that for long though...
Gabe and his muddy paws!

I have started a wall display for some of my things...
& I still have space to add more :) exciting!
I can just imagine this ceiling and
wall with cornice and plaster stencils too!

I have no patience whatsoever !
I am actually annoying myself !
This was such a good project..
or should I say would have been if..
my lack of patience didnt make it so difficult..
Paint everywhere because it was still wet..
while I was trying to glue bits on wet paint...
AAAAAARGHH...
Ive decided I really am going to work on myself with this..
Anyway rant over here it is...

Unfinished wall display...

Here ye go mum (and anyone else whos on my blog)...a pic of the painted fireguard...:)

Im really not sure about this one...
This is my second attempt ...
It might even end up in the bin!

I love this time of year...
its just so bright....
All the patterns and colours are coming alive in my living space!

So heres a wee update on the Jiggle Ma Wiggle Living room...
I have painted all the furniture I have collected over the year,
In all my favourite colours...
No Ikea units in sight :)
I havent finished..still have lots more ideas..

This is the entrance into the living room...

You cant see all the full length wall panels but they really do add character to a boring council house...

My handmade wallpaper looks so bright...

This wee unit couldnt have come at a better time...
Ive just recently got rid of all my Ikea units and im really having trouble storing all those bits n bobs!
This unit was thrown in the skip...what a waste eh?
All it needed was some TLC...
I needed somewhere for all my different types of papers and card..
PERFECT!

I had to paint this white..ive been addding to much colour lately :)
My usual handmade chalk paint mix and recycling the handles from my old Ikea unit...

As you all know I have been redecorating the Living room...
Ive decided on this area to be my sewing nook!..

Last week it looked like this.....

And the week before it looked like this...

 then this...
Tutorial for the wall panel here...

And the Ikea units...

I know the Bureau was already yellow...
but it was a really wishy washy yellow..
I redone it in this vibrant colour pineapple crush...
The living room is nearly finished just have a few finishing touches to make!

I decoupaged the Bureau insert with some Pip Studio Paper...
I put a few layers of varnish over the top to protect it...

2016 Re-Vamp

First things first...Getting rid of all my IKEA units..
Ikea units are fab....especially for storage...
but  there are just to many gorgeous antique pieces of furniture out there..
with beautiful curves and details and workmanship!
Gathering dust in charity shops and selling for next to nothing!

Heres a pic of the units I have got rid of and the space im going to decorate next :)
I have donated these units to my little brother who has just moved home. :)

Heres the piece which is going to take its place.
Found this in a local charity shop for £40.00
Its worth a hell of a lot more! (unpainted lol)

Heres its all painted and decorated in a beautiful navy paint.
I will be doing a wall panel tutorial of behind the Sideboard next time :)

Last pics of the Living Room before the 2016 redo...
Heres my plan..
Im going to be doing a black and white diamond floor ..
I might paint on the diamonds or use vinyl tiles..not quite sure..
Red and white striped wall..
and hopefully a new sofa...
I want a fun interior...whimsical!
The absolute opposite of my personality which can only be described as a boring old fart!

Today I made Tassel bunting :)
I was quite surprised that It really didn't take long at all to make..
not everyone's taste im sure but..
I love it...

While I had the wool out I made some Pom Pom Bunting :)
I used the Clover Pom Pom Makers. They are brill..

Here I go again, moving things around :)

A wee pop of colour...

I decided on painting my suitcases...not sure I made the right decision but here they are....

Suitcases...suitcases and more suitcases....

My Painted Suitcases

Label Frames

Thought I would give you a wee update on how my living room is looking now...

Its so starting to feel like my home...its only took 1 year and 3 months lol !!!
Im not quite there yet.... something still isn't quite right !!!

Here is a pic of the other lamp base I found in the skip the other day. It was antique bronze in colour. Ive given it a plain white undercoat and im now thinking on hand painting it in a colourful Aztec design. turquoise, reds, yellows and all the colours of the rainbow lol...

bottom up....1920s Gramophone, 1950s Typewriter And a 2013 Crosley Record Player...

Living room earlier on in the year

Random Living Room Picture

The living room Journey From This...

 To This...

After a lot of hard work...took about 2 weeks to hand sand the floor. Then I applied 3 coats of tung oil.

When I first saw the fireplace and surround in here My heart sank..you know those old gas metal 70s fires (yuck) with the lovely beige, beige and more beige tile surrounds.

I have always loved those funky bright tiles, vintage and new but they do cost a lot of money and a lot of time to source....A printer, paper, inks and P.V.A and I think it looks good!!!

and eventually to this

Patchwork Chair In Progress

So pretty...Made this for my living room wall.

Been absolutely desperate for a rocking chair for years.

Picked this one up second hand for next to nothing. It was so huge !!!. It reminded me of the Mad Hatters Tea Party.
I just had to go a watch Alice In Wonderland (for ideas :)

                                                           The wall panelling begins....
