Hallways

I've decided I'm not putting a big tree up this year I'm just going to do some wee pops around the house just so it feels Christmassy. I think because I still have so much decorating to do I would rather put my energy into that...JD will be happy when he hears ! He really doesn't care for my OTT decorating😁I've only put up a garland and now I'm itching to go get the other Christmas boxes!!!!

I was out for brunch with my two favourite boys today JD and my son Dean. We passed by a florists when I seen these gorgeous wee plants outside. I wasn't going to get them but JD talked me in to it ! Capsicum and Solanum im hoping I can look after them ok!  Also in one of the pics you can see JD has hung my D.I.Y basket shade lower for me...its much better. :)

I've been laying the dressing room floor for 3 days now so im pretty tired...I did mange to have a wee faff in the hallway though and drop some pumpkins on the stairway!🤣

Its coming along nicely....A wee before and after

This piece of furniture was just painted MDF. I would have loved to have a natural wood front and black around the sides and a wood top but I couldn't achieve that look I had to paint the front of the drawers and dresser black. I painted the wicker brown and once dry I sanded the wicker to show through some of the natural colour. I painted the rest of the dresser black. JD cut the top for me from an old dresser we used as an island in the kitchen...I am glad we keep everything!!! I just ran a glaze over the top of the dresser top for a more unified look as the original stain was all patchy. Used the glaze on top of the wicker to try and bring the top and the drawers together. I will change out the handles but im not willing to just go and buy expensive knobs I will wait and see what comes up!!!

Here it is the basket lampshade...I love it....I spray painted the cheap plastic ceiling rose black, JD done the rest. :) I'm not sure what in doing with this space yet JD plank walled it.  I love it but I'm not sure where I'm going with it..Im just storing some winter hats and doggy stuff in the baskets just now..it will come to me...eventually haha. I'm going to buy a nice bulb :)

Heres a wee before pic of the basket....

I was in a Charity Shop the other day when I seen this large chinese floor vase...£6.95..I left the shop and 5 minutes later thought...I think I really like that vase so I ran back and bought it...im so glad I did....

I also found this vintage ceiling light at the weekend it was £20.00 Im thinking I want to keep the lovely colour of the light and paint the ceiling rose the same colour....or go all gold!!! or go dark....these 3 options are swirling around in my head and until I decide what to do I will just leave it as is! I may end up thinking of something else!

Pretty chuffed with my wee panels, First side done and first coat on..still to caulk the gaps and add a second coat 🙂....view from the top of the stairs..

Oh my there is just something about this rustic wee window that makes my heart flip I think this is beautiful all scraped back to the original ...I wonder how old it is!! Beautiful!!! (its not staying like this though)

If maximalist hurts your eyes...LOOK AWAY! I also found this photo frame ladder in the same shop as my Chinese vase find 🤣This was only £4 it looked very pretty rustic farmhouse! So I walloped some gold and black paint on it and put in some swear words for visitors when they come in the front door hahahh..

Work in progress: Always

Ive just put on this terracotta brick wallpaper..its got a kinda pink tone so Im not sure Im in love..I do like how it warms the room up though. A wee view into the kitchen with the brick. I need the chest there it holds all the loo rolls...

Ive added some brick wallpaper to the hallway am I loosing the plot hahah...och its a wee change....I will make it work!!

Just love that wee pop of jungalow in the hallway...

Same as the picture I took yesterday only with black tongue and grrove now.

So I got rid fo the blue it wasnt doing it for me at all...and then I went navy..I quite liked that but then I went black and I liked that ..not as much as the navy but I cant be bothered doing it again!!! hahah (Im talking about the tongue and groove half wall behind the bench)

Another angle of the leafy wallpaper.

I like it...A wee pop of cozy! I am talking about the leafy wallpaper top left hand side of the pic!!

A wee reflection of the leafy wallpaper in the mirror.

A wee update....Im still not feeling very creative...it is gone for now! Im working over @jigglemawiggles but im not making anything new.....anyways..I am enjoying my space though so maybe thats all it is! I did however change the bed and dust the hallway and thought I would take a pic of this achievement for you all.

Im not really feeling the need to change anything in the house at the moment...Im blaming the covid maybe its a combination of the slower pace in lockdown and me getting a wee bit older and starting to enjoy my space! Remember my Ikea moppe revamp..I stained the drawers with different colours of watered down brown kids paint, decoupaged some of them with papers I printed and some I done with faux suede fabric. I made the wee mini handle from faux suede fabric to.

Hello everyone....Its been a while, over a month I think since I last posted. I havent done anything new in the house. I dont know whats going on but I do think im feeling the effects of the covid lockdowns. I have lots of new papers and a few ideas but dont seem to want to implement any of them right now. I hope you all are keeping well.

I wallpapered my fire and wall using Anaglypta wallpaper. I think it turned out gorgeous

I mixed up what was meant to be a dark petrol blue..I wanted it to look like the farrow and ball Stiffkeyblue.

Lighting is bloomin awful, just so dark!!! Looks grey!!! Nooo im not a grey person!

Oh my goodness...its so nice to get some light and colour back in the hallway!!! it just makes me feel happy!! I love dark decor..but im not sure I could have the whole house dark...think I might give it a go in the bedroom though hahaha

How do you spend your day off? My day has been spent moving plants 🤣 and never would I have thought I would be using fake plants ......I just dont want the responsibility...how lazy is that hahah

Thats enough with the black...The hearth, bath front and now radiator cabinet..time for some colour and pattern!!!

Painted my old white radiator cabinet black. I used ronseal black paint for wood and metal. It can be used on radiators :) I also cut and stained the shelf above the radiator. I made the stain from some water based brown paint and top coated with a water based varnish. :)

My house gets more odd by the day...

Do you remember my IKEA Moppe re-vamp a while back... since I decorated them they have been sat in a cupboard...Today I took the legs off painted the carcus black, joined them together and attached them to the wall. I quite like them now!!

A happy accident?
Im not sure about this one.

My hallway flooring is ruined! I got gas central heating a while back and they ruined my peel and stick vinyl tiles in my hallway when the went underneath to lay the pipes. I was left with this massive section and the vinyl tiles are discontinued 😭 I had some 12" peel and stick black and white tiles left over from the kitchen so I just cut them up into squares, I used grout adhesive to stick them down and grouted them like I would a normal tile...its god awful but at least I can walk on it without sticking to the peel and stick tile residue that was left! Ive still to clean the grout off them lol!

I went shopping in the shed yesterday . I found what looks like a record player storage unit or a wooden magazine rack, it opens from the front and has slots..all it needed was a slight sand and a wee touch up of some handmade chalk paint I like the claw feet. I must have picked this one up a few years back!

My brother gave me a few of these demijohns he was getting rid of...I just put some fairy lights in one not sure what im going to use the other one for..i think they are so gorgeous.....anyone using these and for what? May put one with solar lights in the garden.

I had William Morris fabric on this bench for about 5 years and although very much still loved I just needed a wee change...Will have to make some new cushions and a door blind to ...

Another view: I like different views haha..I added some picture rail around the hallway..attached some chain to my second hand vintage mirrors and hung them with my lovely wee vintage picture hooks I found on Ebay...I love mirrors...

I added some picture rail around the hallway..attached some chain to my second hand vintage mirrors and hung them with my lovely wee vintage picture hooks I found on Ebay...I love mirrors...

Hows the wallpaper panel looking now?😂😂 Much better I think hahahahhaha..I just couldnt make the paper work without a full hall red-do..no way Im giving myself that much work for one paper panel! I distressed and added a few more panels and added a picture rail in the hall to Its official..im boring!!!

I keep going to run for the tub of white paint hahaha...No I am going to see this through..a full revamp!

Ive still a ton more to do to make this Morris paper work in here! Its gonni take me a few months just doing wee bits at a time. I mixed together 2 farrow and ball tester paints here for this colour green I will be painting more of the white out..not all of it though..a new floor maybe later (this floor really is all cracked and broke you cant see it in the pics though)

I dont know how I managed to build that fake wall and fireplace!! I dont have the energy or courage I dont think anymore to do these things!!!

hahahahahha..I just had to show you all this one...the difference 4 years can make!!..you should see the earlier ones again..Oh My....

Its made a nice difference adding some depth to the inside of my faux fireplace. Saying that Im not sure of the black hearth im thinking dark green or navy..that can wait though lol!!

Trying to make my faux corner fireplace I built in the hallway a few years back less faux looking!! Ive used some leftover paint and wallpaper and tried to create a wee bit more depth..I wanted a plain colour block hearth because the hallway is so patterned I just painted directly over my vinyl tiles with chalkboard paint and a few coats of waterproof varnish. I need to get to work instead of faffing around with home D.I.Y!!

That feeling when you put all your decorations away. Can anyone explain that feeling I am so rubbish when trying to explain my feelings!.. Its like a fresh start...I think I could squeeze some more stuff in here hahaha..think its time for a wee trip to the charity shops!!!

When you are dusting and find your son has added his upcycled rock to your home decor...hahahahaha..I did chuckle when I seen this...

I wanted a wee side table for my hallway. I used one of my chopping boards and a pedestal from my mannequin..I cut the handle off using a jigsaw, sanded, stained and painted it black..perfect for my needs

All my wee handmade halloween props :)

A perfect wee space on the bench for my coffin im nearly finished building hehehe

Doesnt he look dapper!!!

I had to get the bats in to :)

My first Halloween...Mostly recycled and best of all nearly finished! This has been hard work!!! Just going to add a few odds and ends now...

Image may contain: indoor
On the way back from the post office today I noticed this gorgeous mirror in the window of the second hand shop, Im usually quite good and can say no to myself but sometimes I just canny!!! I do have a thing for mirrors!!! Its the one nearest in the picture, the one with the beveled glass...so pretty very vintage and very cheap!!!

Have you all forgotten this wallpaper yet hahaha..its still there..I havent decided what im doing yet....its a mismatch of colours and patterns at the moment...It will come together in the end hahaha...just not today

I am not doing much of anything at the moment...a few wee bits n bobs here an there...I had to take a pic of these crystals my boy gave me this morning...He collects crystals but not for for the healing properties but because he likes a bit of sparkle..just like his mum I put mine in a recycled candle glass...pride of place on my hallway mantle...

and some more panels and mouldings and architrave ...

As you all know I like to bore you all to death with different angles..to be honest this is more for me than you hahahha it helps me see if I like it or not and maybe what I may add next

So am playing around with some colours...I had a yellow mix in the she shed so I added some brown to make a mustardy colour...Ive painted the wall above the coat area...Im staining some wood trim at the moment to go on the outer corner wall..Im just going to keep adding see where it takes me!!! No big deal if I hate it I will just go white again

My wee dog Gabe likes to try and catch the postmans hand in the letterbox..I googed mail catchers but none where very attractive!! I had this basket in my Studio so I just put a couple of screws in the door and hung it..it will do...not sure im keeping the heart there..thats just because im bored!!!

Ok so ive had a few days now of living with my wallpaper and its such a love/hate situation..
Sometimes I look and think wow you are just beautiful and other times I look and think OMG  matching non matching patterns much!!!
It really is starting to grow on me and I know I need to add a few more things just to make it right but I will get there hahaha

Not everything goes to plan!!!!
I dont know what I was thinking!!
My wallpaper is bloomin awful..it doesnt go with anything...what was I thinking!!!!!
This is all you are going to see of this!!! beautiful paper ...not in my hall!!!
Im out to get a bucket of white tomorrow!!!!!!

Thats all the shelving cut, stained and in place
Now I have to live with it for a few weeks before I decide if I like it or not!!!

So excited got my lovely William Morris Curtain today....
Ye can hardly see it hahahaha..but I know its there!!!

Will I? Wont I? That is the questions!!!  Ive had a few Gallery walls but I took them all down because I started to feel a cluttered feeling!!
I think I may be starting another!!

Just another wee pic of my nice bright shelf in the hall...

My new door shelf was so dark!!
Nothing a wee set of fairy lights didnt fix :)

I couldnt wait to finish my orders today!!! I stained another shelf and put it it the top of the doorway..The reason my shelf is longer at one end is...I plan to hang a curtain pole and hopefully get a William Morris curtain to drape at one side..so I can close it over at night for privacy and in the winter it will be cozy looking and I just love William Morris prints...Ive hung my wee handmade plant pot there until I can figure out what I am doing

Handmade Plant Pot Cover:
I made this a while back and now I have somewhere to display it...in my hallway ...

I really  have to go do housework before getting back to work tomorrow so this time I mean it!!!! All because the lady stained a door frame!!!

I love my new handmade key holder :)
It only took a few hours to make this morning :)

Yesterday I made a key holder from a small drawer..I just didnt like it..so this morning I went into the she shed and found myself an off cut of pine-board.
I stained it and added all the hardware..
I think it looks much better than the drawer...

Key Storage..
I was needing something to hold my keys...I am so lazy I didnt even bother going into the she shed for a rummage..I grabbed this drawer from the kitchen found some hooks and bits n bobs in my toolbox and hung it in the hallway..it will do for just now!!!

Heres what I used to do the trim..
I had all this stuff in the she shed..so it feels like it cost me nothing I love that!!!!
I threw out the brown acrylic paint ..but it was the same make as the black one
I used a bit of both with lots of water...

So this one was a..lets try this and see what happens!!!
My newly installed door had some new knotted pine framing around it...
I used some black and brown pound store kids paint..mixed with lots of water and battered it on the pine door frame...
its not perfect but I actually quite like the colour..
it was the caramel yacht varnish that really brought out the brown tones...
1 hour job and I love it!!!
Now all I need to do is maybe put up a curtain rail..some door accessories ..and a wee shelf above the door..stained of course!!!

Gosh im up so late!!!! Im gonni be tired tomorrow.
A wee before and after of my hallway to date...
My fake corner wall and fireplace I built.
Not a very good job may I add...If you were to lean on that wall im sure it would just cave in 🤣😵
My favourite of all time in my history of D.I.Y ..I still love the look of my handmade architrave...it took me months to do all my doors in the hallway.
I used scrap wood, plaster, washing rope and hundreds of molds. :)
(The image has been manipulated so you can see the detail clearer )

Today was cleaning day...I am knackered..
After scrubbing lots of walls and floors to get rid of the lovely debris that flies off my dogs coat when he shakes!!!

A wee hallway shot.

Yes...its genius!!!
Fireguard into dog gate.
I needed to mop the floors!!!

Oh my..how wonderful it is to have a nice warm house on such a chilly night :)
Im lovin the central heating...
Sometimes its just nice to look at all your hard work come together..
My revamped, second hand..some new, lots of handmade, every inch decorated by me (even the fake corner wall) hallway lol...

Thats the gas central heating put in...
It was so hot this morning I woke up with frizzy hair!!!
I love it...
Dont love the damage it caused and the amount of decorating but it was worth it.
The centre floor of my hallway had to be lifted...
Im glad I kept an extra packet of tiles for just in case...
Tiled the floor this morning and the hallway is kind of back to normal with some extra sparkle because I had to clean

It feels so wrong..yet so right!!!!!!
I just had to go and buy the large recycled vase after loving my small one so much...
Its not like theres not enough Eucalyptus to go around...
 I have a Eucalyptus tree...

Another obsession and I am sure I am repeating myself with this one!!!
I have had the fairy light obsession a few times over the last few years..
I have four sets in this one area and a 5 way adapter hiding under the wooden trunk in a basket..
I love lights4fun they have really beautiful well made lights, brighter than any other ones I have used.
The Lantern on the fireplace was a lamp, I didnt like it lit so I took out the internal fitting and replaced it with micro fairy lights they are so easy to manipulate with their bendy wire and the result is like fireflies in a jar :)
The Large wicker star I bought from TKMAXX and I wrapped some pearl fairy lights around it.
I always buy the soft warm white lights not the bright white which I think have a touch of blue!

Oh my...
I fell in love with this as soon as I seen it...
I love the oversized blocks...
It justs reminds me of the desktop clock for Mac....

Loving my plants at the moment...
cant get enough...
I have at least 4 in each room..
The only thing stopping me getting more...
Is the time it takes to water them all!!!

I dont really like night time photies but It just felt so cosy...

The work I put into these door frames...I wouldnt like to do that over again!!

A wee peak around the corner....
I cant put plants in here it gets no sunlight...

Vestibule Hall... (I wish! )
If you cordon off a small section at the front door it can create a similar feel...
I have been thinking about building a fake wall here with a doorway...
...The reason I created this area ? ...
I have painted floors...
So sick of painting this area..
...over and over and over....
Vinyl tiles are brilliant for those winter months.....
..especially if you have a dog..

A little bit more relaxed ...

I had such a good day in the charity shops yesterday...
Sometimes I dont find anything for months..
Then I get two fab finds in one day :)
I was a happy bunny yesterday!
First was this beautiful heavy but dainty and feminine brass mirror...
£4.00

Some chinoiserie medallion bunting I made last night...

When I buy or aquire anything new for the jigglemawiggle household...
I need a few weeks settle in period!
Moving things around, a lot ( one might say quite obsessed! )...
To make it feel like it has always been part of...
Anyways...heres my treadle a few weeks after it has been saved from the skip...

Hallway

This has been a lot of work...
Think I have gave myself tennis elbow again...
Stripped..sanded..oiled and re-upholstered..
1874 beautiful oak hallway bench...
got it for a bargain price!

The ever growing stack in my hallway...

I have finally finished the polka dot wall...
Its only took 2 weeks lol!..
Excuse my Router on the shelf...
Im not allowed to touch it or a war breaks out with the Teen!

I added a wee touch of embroidered floral to my painting of Dean...

I am loving the new white washed floor..
I have applied a good 3 to 4 coats of non yellowing varnish over the chalk paint...
I lightly sanded the floor after the 3rd coat...

I think it looks much better than the pine..
You cant see the floor properly in the pics it really has a nice washed effect...
Nice knots and grain showing through ever so lightly...

A faux painted rug or a full floor stencil is the dilemia...
I originally started off thinking I would do a mandala kind of rug!!
Then I thought a repeat pattern all over would be nice too...
This is the problem...I havent thought this one through...
And I was tired when I started it...
A wee tip...
Think things through ..
and dont start a job when your tired.
I sanded the hallway and living room around 4 years ago when I first moved into the property..
The colour was light pine and it looked beautiful..
I decide on an oil top coat, which turned the living room floor orange!
The hallway I stained with tea and coffee and then varnished and this turned out a much nicer colour..
But over the years they have both became a deeper and deeper orange...
Both look like they have been Tangoed!
I bit the bullet 3 days ago and made up a Chalk Paint mixture.....
I used Calcium Carbonate..

I put this job off for so long because it was such hard work sanding the floors..
But really when I look back I never did like the pine floorboards..
The orange throws off the rest of the colour scheme...
The pine looks better in the photo than it did in real...
At first I was going to do pure white floors..
Instead I rubbed off some of the paint with a wet rag..
Then went over it again with a damp paint roller...
I done this a few times..
Rubbing at some of the nice grain and knotty parts..

It hasnt had its top coat yet im waiting on that being delivered...
This will give it real depth...
Im using a non yellowing water based polyacrylic floor varnish..
I will do 3 coats because its the hallway and because I have Gabe!

You should see the living room it looks like it has been tangoed!

I could just finish off with a border and make it a faux rug..

I do like a polka dot...
You can actually buy beautiful polka dot graham and brown wallpaper ..
I just bought some sticky vinyl dots,
which cost about £6.00 but I only needed half of them..
This way when im bored of them I can just peel them off..
and it took about 10 minutes to do...

This was my hallway when I moved in April 28th 2012...
Where have the years went!

I found a pair of non matching wood urn bases...
In Galashiels charity shop last summer..
They cost me £4.00 for both with matching shades..
I left the shades and took the Bases..

I painted the bases in my already made earlier white chalk paint :)
I bought a cheap lampshade from the local shop today at £5.99..
I added some decoupaged arrows to spruce it up a wee bit..

It lights up my hallway just lovely...
This project only took a few hours..
Including going to the shop for the shade lol!

A wee pic with the light on :)

The Hallway 2016..
My corner fireplace and fake wall all built by me!
Its been a lot of hard work but well worth the effort...

Some nice Red Robin cuttings in my folky vase...
Bathroom 2016

Hallway 2015

Hallway 2014

 Hallway 2013

Walking the dog at my local Park this afternoon,
I noticed all the beautiful wild flowers in full bloom.
I never realised how much pink and turquoise complimented each other.

When I put the flowers next to the mirror there was just a sudden colour pop!

So it all started with the Provence fire..
Sitting in the corner of my hallway..

I decided on a corner fireplace.. well I had no choice actually!
I found the corner fireplace awkward to display.

So I decided on a fake wall...
B&Q here I come..
It cost £28.00 in total...
4 panels of thin hardboard,  2 bags of panel pins and 2 tubs of no nails..

I left the shelf up behind the wall...how lazy is that?
Maybe a cup of coffee too!

And all finished...
But im sure the display will change a few times as the wall is new.
It takes me a while to get the feel of things.
I will panel the top of the wall..but not today :)
While I had the wool out I made some Pom Pom Bunting :)
I used the Clover Pom Pom Makers. They are brill..

I made this mini bunting for the hallway fire surround from some leftover vinyl tiles.
I just hammered a few holes in them so I could string them together with some thread.

I made this hanging photo frame display today too..
I used some clothes rope and a staple gun :)

My hallway was looking a bit bland!
Ive given the hallway Fireplace a Hearth...
All made with paper and varnish :)
I hope we don't ever have Gale force winds here in Selkirk
I believe half my house would blow away!

Remember the Provence fire I bought for the hall...
well it was just kinda awkwardly sittin there looking unfinished
so I decided on building a corner fire surround..
Here it was..
And here it is now...

my son Dean and I went looking for some natural goodies to make some garland.
We went to the lovely Haining House In our home town Selkirk.
We managed to collect pine cones, bark, berries, twigs and even some conkers.
Took a bit of hard work getting the conkers, there was a lot of jumping up and down with a large stick.

Just a random pic taken this morning hahaha...because I can....

My elderly neighbour gave me some dining chairs yesterday. They had belonged to her Grandmother and had been lying up in her attic for years. I mixed up some of my handmade pure white chalk paint and made a patchwork cover for the seat.

Scottish Slang for Flowers....Floo'ers...A wee pic of my Floo'ers I got in the reduced section in Tesco...5p...Canny Complain at that...they are braw!!!!

A picture of the Hallway when I moved in. Textured wallpaper and a chocolate brown carpet.

What it looks like now...

First job was lifting the carpet to see what lay beneath...

Sanded back the pine floors with a small rotary hand sander. Cladded the wall.

Next job was making the architrave and pediments for the 5 door frames..this is still on going.

Shelving put up and door surrounds finished..

Hooks put up.

Some finishing touches.

Chandalier.

Wall panelling all handmade.

Some coasters I found in a second hand store glued to some left over tiles and put above the coat hooks.

Nearly finished

shelving everywhere.

The fwood at the front door was getting really dirty so I layed some of these vinyl tiles to protect it.
